roads in or around tullamore

Postby elexes » Wed Dec 03, 2008 4:11 pm

frankly i find every approach road to the town a utter discrace.

the ring road has made the roads swamped with mud. The ones that have traffic lights are not timed correctly one which I’ve approached has had both sides green at the same time!!!

The road to the hospital is sunken, Clara road is imported from some war torn town, high street is in need of relaying, charlivlle (sp) is full of holes. Clomninch road needs to be relayed.

Thoughts ?

Write to the Town Council AND the County Council perhaps? They do take note of such writings, as roads in poor condition can often be used as scape goats in accidents and so on. In theory (and I have heard stories where the theory was practiced), if you hit a pot hole and had your wheel damaged on your car, you can claim from the council as it is under their care. If enough people did this then maybe the poor condition would not be left as such for as long as it does.

What also gets me is when they use loose chippings as a solution to a long stretch of road, usually just to use up a budget. The chips on my vehicles' paintwork is bad. AND, from what I read elsewhere on the web, loose chippings as a permanent surface solution is illegal.

What do you think elexes?

over the summer i broke the rear right side suspension when i went over what i can only describe as a speed bump in the middle of nowhere.

the council spent 4 days doing some "patch jobs" on the new road(bachlers walk) last week. i couldnt understand why they were doing this aera when there are far worse parts of the town. not to mention the job they done in my opinion is sub standard and they seem to of made the ground uneven.

today and tomorrow they are doing a road becide the clomninch bridge ( i cant for the life of me think of the name now ). now i do admit this road is in a bad state and needs majour work done. i feel its the wrong time of the year to do this and the job they are going to do is not going to be good enough!

the road is to narrow for the ammount of traffic that now goes up and down it daily. it needs to be made wider by about 1 meter. also they have no signs on the clomninch side of the road to inform drivers that the road is presently closed for works. this results in confusion at the bridge.

//edit today i drove down that small road becide the bridge. just to see the work they were doing.

all they have done is replace a tiny strip of road on the left hand side ! considering the lack of work they done yesterday i dont expect them to get much more done in the space of today.i dont see this as lack of work by the people actually putting down the roads as i have see they can put one down very quickly when they have to . but a lack of planning by the powers

I have noticed that the main roads in and out of Tullamore are in general good condition. Two of them could be improved greatly though (Ballinagar/Daingean road and the Rahan road to Ballinamere). The streets as they become roads in the outskirts are in a bad way, such as the long Clara road, the Arden road, and Charleville road up to the Harriers. Why can't the council workers get it right in the first go instead of just doing pothole filling?

If you want to experience a bad stretch of road, try the 'outbound lane' coming out of Ballinagar to Tullamore. Your suspension will get rocked!

if you drive a small car like i do (fiesta) you really notice how bad, bumpy, and holed the roads are. if you take in a 5 mile radius of tullamore, there are numerous blackspots on the condition of the road. i wish the construction workers at the numerous bypass sites would make the seams of where their temp surfaces meet the existing road more, well, seamless. my axles gets a pounding on the cappincur road each time, and on the kilbeggan road. it's just not on. what are they? muppets? :smt013

I don't even think you need a small car, just the ripple effect you get while driving whilst dodging pot holes and sunken manhole covers is a challenge in itself. The road at the Cappincur bypass road works which is meant as a temporary surface is living up to its name.
